My Mistake- Salt Lake Home Sales Numbers Wrong!
I just got an eye opening call from a very nice guy at the Salt Lake Board of Realtors.
He called to tell me that the stats I was basing yesterdays blog on "what are Salt Lake listings selling for" were incomplete numbers and that if I want to deliver accurate numbers I needed to wait until about the 25th of the next month.
He confided that to be completely accurate, I would even need to wait longer to create his report, but didn't think it was very business like (my words) to wait over a month to issue some valuable information.
The problem?
It seems that some Salt Lake REALTORS take that long to report sales to the MLS.
It took me a while to figure out why, (that's an issue for another post) and even though I have been selling homes in Utah for over 30 years, it still boggles my mind.
It hardly seems possible that in an industry that continually reminds the home owner, or Salt Lake Home Buyer that " time is of the essence", that agents and their brokers cannot, or will not report housing sales with at least the same speed as they do the deposit of an earnest money check.
Were not talking a small number here either.
My source tells me that between today and the 25th, the number of homes sold in Salt Lake County in May will increase more than 20%. That increase will alter the numbers I shared with you yesterday, and very likely change the conclusion of the post from "home sales in Salt Lake County down in May" to "Salt Lake County housing sales numbers increase slightly."
I really don't know if this makes any difference to you.
It does to me..........................I like to give you current information.
So ...... the bottom line is this. Future reports on the state of the Salt Lake Real Estate market will be at least 25 days late.
Sorry, .... and..... Sorry about yesterdays report.
And thanks to the guy from the Salt Lake Board if REALTORS that gave me the heads up.
