The Media Wet Blanket Is Everywhere !!

You would think that any news that would give hope, or paint a positive picture of the Real Estate market in Salt Lake City, would be reported with enthusiasm and verve. Not so, here in Utah

The news media dampened a pretty exciting news conference on capital hill Friday. Then Saturday, the Salt Lake Tribune hosed down the blanket again with coverage in the Utah section. Heres the deal.

It seems the purveyors of information think it is incumbent on them to reveal to an obviously uninformed public that the 60 million dollars in land donated to the State of Utah to facilitate the building of the Mountain View Freeway was a bad thing.

It seems that some news people think that by improving transportation access and removing traffic congestion that Kennecott Land Company (Daybreak), Sorenson Development (Rosecrest) and Development Associates a large developer of commercial and residential property in Utah, expect to make money.  DUH !!!

The only folks that don't know that don't know that there was an earthquake in wells that we felt in West Jordan last week. Or that the more snow we get, the better the ski industry does, and that the runoff from those slopes helps our water supply. I guess these same reporters would celebrate if we can figure out a way to increase the water supply without allowing the resorts to make any money.

Yes people, these folks expect to make money, and lots of it. And thats a good thing.

Because of  improved  access to the south west side of the Salt Lake Valley, hundreds if not thousands of homes will be built in South Jordan, Riverton, and Herriman over the next few years. Affordable town homes and Condominiums will pop up, surrounded by multi family housing and apartments. Families that move into these houses will need shopping and services. Office buildings and jobs will be created that keep our young people from leaving the state.

These Developers are GAMBLING that they can improve access and quality of life to make their housing projects more saleable. They will increase the value of the remaining land. For themselves and others.

Is that such a bad thing ? I should say not !! It's a great thing. What is a bad thing is the way it's reported.
