New Homes Impact Herriman "Big Time"

At about the same time I was trying to set up a battle (on paper) between Rosecrest in Herriman and Daybreak in South Jordan, the Salt Lake tribune published an article that made my blog meaningful.  It also showed the leadership and vision of the people making decisions for the city of Herriman, and what an impact that 4000 acres added to Rosecrest can mean.

The article by Gary Cannon, President of the Salt Lake Board of Realtors pointed out how important New Home Construction can be to those or any Communities.

Among other things, Gary said that "New Home construction and existing home sales create jobs, generate wages and taxes, and positively influence our community and quality of life".  We all knew that, but Gary put it in a form we can understand with a great example.

The example given was from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) estimates of what the construction of 1000 single family homes generates.

For the sake of this post, and to prove the point, we are going to assume that the 4000 acres will yield at least one new home per acre.  Using the numbers from NAHB then the economic impact will be.

4000 New Homes in Herriman will generate:

9792 New Jobs for Herriman and surrounding areas.

317 Million dollars in wages for Herriman, and Salt Lake  area.

170 Million dollars of federal, state, and local revenues and fees.

35 Million six hundred thousand dollars, to furnish, decorate, landscape, the New Home within the first year.

No one knows how many more homes will be built at Rosecrest, nor how many years it will take.  What we do know, is that each home built contributes jobs, requires services, retail, shopping, schools, medical facilities and on and on.  Building homes creates OPPORTUNITY.
