Oh Give Me A Home Where The Buffalo Roam. (In South Jordan)
I took the Grandkids out to the old Jones Farm in South Jordan today to see if the Elk, and Buffalo were still a part of the landscape. So much development is taking place that I'm afraid it wont be long before there will be no chance for us to see the way the kids eyes light up in wonder when they actually get to be up close to these majestic animals.
The Buffalo, with their calves are losing the winter coats now, and they look shaggy and wild. The Elk still have the velvet on the antlers, and look like they could use a good brushing. It takes me back to the day's before a Bangarter Highway, became a North , South travel option, and the herds were larger and the kids could get much closer.
Yes, they are still there, smaller herds, less space to roam, further away from the eager hands of excited youngsters. Things change. Pretty soon we wont be able to find them.
Instead, we'll find beautiful homes, homes of brick & rock & weathered wood, in places where names suggest a history; Jones Farm, Jones Meadows, Harvest Corners, Bison Ridge Estates and McKee Meadows.
So get out there , take the kids, be a kid yourself. Before they build lots instead of pasture.
Drive out to 10400 South and 3200 West in South Jordan. Go south on 3200 W. to Bison Ridge Estates, and then wind your way down to Alexander Park Rd. Enjoy.
