The New Construction Myth
The new construction myth – or most common misconception – is that you don’t need your own representation when you buy new construction. That couldn’t be farther from the truth, and here’s why: the on-site sales agent represents the builder NOT YOU. Working with your own buyers’ agent is the most important thing a new house buyer can do!
To the builder’s on-site sales agent, you are just one of the builder’s customers. The agent’s fiduciary responsibility is to the builder. That means that the sales agent is legally required to act in the builder’s best interest. So, if there’s an issue to be resolved, the sales agent is required to make sure the resolution favors the builder.
