HISTORY OF HERRIMAN, UTAH: Originally named for Thomas Butterfield in 1849 along (with the river and the canyon), the town was renamed Herriman in 1855 after the closing of Ft. Herriman which had occupied the land that is today 12685 So. 6000 W. The Fort had been built as protection against Indian raiders by 5 local families including Henry Herriman.

Over the years, Herriman UT grew rather slowly as primarily a farming, agricultural community.  As recently as 2000 Herriman was home to only 388 families, 437 households, with only 1523 people.
